So you
don't know what to do for work experience. The most important thing, as with
planning a career, is to think about the things you enjoy doing. There is no
point in making yourself miserable just to get some work experience. Look at the
three headings below.
In column A under each heading, list the things that you
do or like in that section. For example, in Column A under Hobbies, you
might put "playing football" or "going out with friends". In the School
column, put the subjects you enjoy most or are good at; eg. PE or ICT. In the
Interests columns put the things that you see on TV or in the media which
you would like to find out more about; eg. "How do they put that building up?",
"How do they cook that? or what causes a plane to take off".
Once you have done this, show the lists to your family and
talk to them about which jobs might be suitable for you, in Column B. If you're
still stuck, show the lists to your tutor, teacher or Mrs Yeo-Walker in school
and ask for their help. Finally, you can also use the school careers software (eg.
KUDOS) and/or go onto the Internet (eg.
www.fastomato.co.uk) to generate job ideas.
