Programme Overview

Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance (CEIAG)

CEIAG is delivered during Citizenship lessons and is concerned with preparing students for the roles they will fulfil in life and help with making decisions and manage transitions.

The aims are self development (understand themselves and influences upon them), career exploration (investigate opportunities in learning and work) and career management (make and adjust plans to manage transition).

Year 9

November – February

Use of the Plan-it online system and introduction to the Careers Centre (Learning Resource Centre) and the Connexions Service (careers advice/support for 13-19 year olds). This programme aims to provide opportunities for students to consider:

  • Where they are now?
  • Where they would like to get to?
  • How they will get there?

Plan-it is an online system that helps students to complete Individual Learning Plans through the three-stage planning process mentioned above.

For more information on Plan-it, please visit the website  and click on the link 'flier for parents'. Students will also work through the booklet, 'Which Way Now? – How to choose options in Year 9'. Parents will be issued the complementary booklet, 'Parents and Carers of Year 9 students', which provide information on how to support their children in making choices in Years 9 and 11.

March Students will be issued the Options Booklets and Mr Lofkin will explain the choices and constraints of the options blocks. Mr Lofkin will do the same for parents at the Year 9 Parents' Options Evening.
June Letter to Year 9 Parents regarding Work Experience in Year 10.

Year 10

September – April Work experience applications;
Health & safety checks
March - June Mock Interview Applications;
Preparation for Work Experience;
Information on Post-16 opportunities
July Work Experience Week (Dates to be confirmed);
Work Experience Debriefing;
Completion of Work Experience Logbooks

Year 11

September – October Mock Interview Preparation;
Mock Interview Fortnight
October CEIAG on Post- 16 / After Year 11 Opportunities
January Compilation of Progress Files

Finally, the Careers Centre is open daily at lunch times for all students and careers guidance via Connexions is available at all parents’ evenings for Years 9-13 students and the Connexions Personal (Careers) Advisor sees students individually or in groups, priority to Year 11 and Sixth Form students.
