Triangular School Sports Day (1961)

In the 1960's all three schools (Keynsham Grammar, Wellsway County Secondary and Broadlands) took part in a combined day of sport.

An unusual way to dip for the line!

The following account was written in the School Magazine, The Clarion:

TRIANGULAR SPORTS 1961

On Monday, 23rd July, the second triangular sports were held on the Grammar School's field.

The weather was ideal and an enjoyable afternoon at sport was enjoyed by all.  The competition was won by the Grammar School with Wellsway second, and Broadlands, who were able to send only a very small team, a plucky third.

Individual girls who won 1st places were Christine Gould in the 100 yards, Juliet Balkwell in High Jump, Carol Culver in Hurdles and Mary Hemmings in the Discus event.

For the boys Clive Smith ran well to win 1st place in the 100 yards, and then gained 2nd place in the Long Jump with Roger Fry breaking a record for 1st place.   Christopher Taylor gained 1st place in the Hurdles and 880 yards.  Alex Hay and Thomas Crease also did well to win the Senior Hurdles and Long Jump respectively.

The Junior girls ran an exciting relay, and did very well to come home first.

To all those who took part we say well done!
