Wellsway School has been
awarded the prestigious Sportsmark Gold Award by Sport England for the quality of its Physical
Education and Sports programme.
The coveted Sportsmark and Sportsmark
Gold awards are made annually to schools throughout England that can show a commitment to
developing physical education and sport to a high level in partnership with their local
community. Nationally out of 563 applications for the 2000 awards, 62 schools including
Wellsway were awarded Sportsmark Gold and 369 schools achieved Sportsmark status.

Wellsway is the first school in the
region to be re-awarded the status having first received the award in 1997.
